KAILUA-KONA — A 44-year-old man was taken in critical condition to Hilo Medical Center on Sunday after he apparently slipped and fell into Wailuku River at Boiling Pots in Hilo.

KAILUA-KONA — A 44-year-old man was taken in critical condition to Hilo Medical Center on Sunday after he apparently slipped and fell into Wailuku River at Boiling Pots in Hilo.

Responding to the 2:57 p.m. report, fire rescue personnel arrived at Boiling Pots to learn from the man’s family that he had slipped, struck his head and fell into the river, according to the Hawaii Fire Department. Rescue personnel deployed from Chopper 1 recovered the man. He was then taken to the hospital.

No additional information on the man’s condition was available as of press time.
